The title is from Lao Tzu, the (perhaps mythic) Chinese philosopher who says things like "When fear and darkness reign in the kingdom, there appear the loyal ministers." He also says things like "All men are bright. I alone am dim." So who knows?

The First Casualty
The first casualty of childhood...Mr. Peacock loses a feather.
Left side of the picture, you can see a gap where the feather should stand straight up. Did not exactly lose a feather, but the feather is broken such that it no longer holds the fan shape...

This happened because I put Mr. Peacock in the washing machine with a bunch of other laundry and he could not handle it!
